This magical book forcibly jumped into my hands from a table overflowing with beautifully linen wrapped treats, book siblings you might say, and begged me to take it home. So much so, that I realised I’d actually been picturing its cover for days before I even chanced across it.
Though not so familiar with this collection that I could identify each book individually, I have longingly pawed at their covers for so long that I have a very good sense of all their patterns and colours. I even spotted one in the hands of April Ludgate (played by Aubrey Plaza) in my most beloved sitcom Parks & Recreation the other day — I had to look it up but she was reading Austen’s Pride & Prejudice. The Little Prince must have hypnotically etched its deep English mustard background and night-time navy planets and stars across my imagination on a previous bookshop visit so I was unknowingly looking out for it but when we finally reconnected, I heard it in secret congress with my heart as though this was something long planned. Without a second thought, I scooped it up.
Yes I’m on a mission to collect the lot but I did not regret my modest purchase that day. The Little Prince true to the unstoppably unconscious power of my intuition, was exactly what I needed to read in that moment.
It is childlike enough to fill me with wonder, adult enough to stay with me and make me think and universal enough to compel me to share it on here as part of this relatively new offering of weekly readings which I am really enjoying.
The first part of The Little Prince went out last Tuesday, if you want to catch up with chapters 1-3 and read a little more about the book, head to my post from last week.
