As someone who watches at least 150-200 films a year, a handful of that number are a perennial treat.
The warm embrace of the familiar, the pudding like nostalgia of a beloved family of characters; I’ve well documented during the past year how often I turn to tv shows and movies when in need of a feeling of comfort and Christmas movies are commonly amongst them.
Yes, they’re repetitive and mostly meant for children but I was a child when many of the ones that seem to have stuck in the public consciousness were first released, so I’m sticking with them for the long haul for the benefit of my inner child — most especially when she’s seeking a feeling equivalent to a steaming mug of hot chocolate.
For those who are new here, the Cult Film Club is an intimate group of kind, thoughtful people who once a month watch a movie together and chat about it afterwards. It’s all very informal and lovely.
If you’re not part of the subscribership yet but would love to join us, or if this is something that might make a wonderful gift for a film buff/ novice friend, come one, come all! For anyone who feels a little nervous about groups, you can participate as much or as little as you want!
As it’s the holiday season, for this month’s Cult Film Club we’re going to be watching TWO films back to back, what larks. It will take place this coming Sunday December 10th and we will start the first movie slightly earlier than usual, at 4pm UK time. How this will work and which films we are watching will all be revealed below.
