This spoke to me so much Sian, this sentence deeply resonated with me ... ‘It is precisely this imposition of our culture to define ourselves as just one thing when we are an ever-changing kaleidoscopic myriad of all the things.’
Why do we put ourselves into boxes just because we think we should?! We are not sepia, we should be able to shine in full technicolour. You can’t define life or writing for that matter as there are so many twists, turns and pivots. You grow, evolve and your journey expands and contracts.
Caterina, thank you for taking so much time to consider all of this and share so beautifully about how this is aligning with your own experience. ‘I am the soil and the tree, and the cricket and the bird.’ There’s so much more to get into here but particularly what you say about nouns and adjectives and the role that plays in our identity!! God yes. But also not putting any limitations on our creativity. Allowing our ideas to be borne because we never know whose hearts they might touch. Going to keep that one close if I’m ever feeling a little wobbly about what I’m sharing. <3
