Sweet pals, it’s About Time.
I’ve been brewing on this idea for ages but the surprise hit Wear Sunscreen post from our weekly poetry curation a couple of weeks ago decided it: I want to start a Film Club and I want to do it right now — watch parties, sharing our faves, swapping notes and discussing all of it!
So let’s do this: The Cult Film Club is ON and I am beyond excited.
I am still fine tuning how it’s all going to work so I thought I would float some ideas with you first so that we create something together that delights us all!

A handful of things I’ve decided already
it’s going to be once a month
it’s going to be for fully fledged members
the chosen film will be announced well in advance of any scheduled discussion group
I will chair/ arrange/ be present for the discussion group
I want to build an awesome community with the people on here who love films as much as I do

Some other things I’d love your help with
I’ve put four polls below to determine what we watch, how we watch it and the most fun way to debrief and dissect what we’ve seen.
There’s an annoyingly short character limit on the poll options so I’m going to give each one a little context for clarity.
I really want to make this offering the best it can possibly be so get involved and help create the dream Film Club you want to be in :) voting is open for the next week!
Choosing what we watch
I pick, you pick, we all pick together
I already have a list at the ready so I can pick a movie, or I send you options to vote on. We could also alternate — I pick one, you pick one. What floats your boat the most?
Your ideal way to watch the movie
Would it feel more special to watch it at the same time together where possible? Or we watch it as and when we can? Third option, both of those things are made available depending on what you have time for.
Your ideal Discussion Group
When and how do you want to talk about the film? On a LIVE comment thread with me in attendance? Have a more in-depth conversation, chaired by me on a Zoom? Or, I appoint a scheduled time/day and release a thread from whence we can chat about the movie in our own time?
Double header?
Would you occasionally be up for double bills/ trilogies where time allows, potentially to invite more discussion? Selections would of course be carefully curated so they complement each other. Or, keep the selection focused and specific to just one film?

It is such a funny thing, I just finished all the jurassic's today lol. But the excitement is HUGE, I can feel it through your words and it couldn't come at a better time, i'm up for some positive ions in my life! Letzgo Sian with her cabinet full of ideas!! I feel like running through the park Phoebe Buffay style...

I love this idea!
In terms of its structure I think it might be a bit of go with the flow and see what happens as already discussed. An immediate discussion and a thread may also be helpful for people who can’t always jump on the live feed due to other commitments or different time zones.
